For this project we will be focusing on portraits that relate to emotion (or some other element that creates a contrast). We will be using opposite emotions in photos to show a contrast.
An easy example would be say, happy and sad…. So you may want to brainstorm some more detailed emotions to try to get something a little more interesting than just a smile or a frown.
You will be taking head shot photos of your partner (yes, everyone needs to turn in their own photos).
Before you start you may want to look in the mirror to practice facial expressions before you get in front of the camera. Take multiple pictures then you can pick two that work well and seem to show opposite emotions.
Try to stay the same distance for each photo so they are even and you will have less editing to do.
We will be printing both photos out and creating one image that shows each picture from a different angle, kind of like an accordion.
There will be more to this photo than taking a picture and sending it in. You will be using scissors, glue and folding to turn in a hands on final project.
Soooo... Getting started. Lets look at emotions:
There are alot of emotions (far more than just "happy" or "sad". If you need to take some time to brainstorm them and see the differences you can find when a person is experiencing that emotion.
Once you are ready to take pictures make sure you are using a sold white or back background. And take you pictures (take quite a few) you might want a list of different emotions to read from to make the process go quickly.
Below are some examples of about how far you want to be from the camera:
When you have two photos that have a good contrast in emotion send them in and we will print them for you.
